Acacia Road, St Johns Wood, London
Residential architecture and design
2019 — 2021
Acacia Road is a residential architecture and design project completed by Powell Tuck Associates between 2019 and 2021, located in St John’s Wood, London. The project was led by Angus Shepherd and Theodora Koukou, and forms part of the practice’s wider residential Portfolio, which spans both new-build work and the careful renovation of existing London houses.
St John’s Wood is characterised by generous villas and a strong sense of garden setting, and the Acacia Road project responds to this context with an interior defined by contemporary finishes and open-plan living. Rather than imposing a single dramatic gesture, the design works room by room, using proportion, natural light and a considered material palette to give the house a coherent, calm character throughout.
Open-plan arrangements at ground floor level allow the kitchen, dining and living areas to function as a connected sequence of spaces, while retaining a clear sense of hierarchy between them. As with other Powell Tuck Associates projects, joinery and built-in furniture are treated as part of the architecture rather than as separate interior decoration, helping the finished rooms feel resolved rather than furnished after the fact.
The project was delivered by Angus Shepherd and Theodora Koukou within the practice, working through the studio’s staged design process, from early concept development through to detailed design and completion, as set out on the Practice page.
Acacia Road forms part of a cluster of projects the practice has completed in St John’s Wood and the surrounding area, including Blomfield Road and Stradella Road. Viewed alongside the wider Portfolio, these commissions show how the studio adapts its approach to the specific scale and detailing of each villa, rather than applying a single formula across the area.
Acacia Road was carried out by Powell Tuck Associates, whose Practice page sets out the RIBA-aligned stages, from sketch design through to construction and handover, that structured the 2019–2021 programme for this house.
